Claiming the carer's element of UC, what happens after submitting necessary information?

I've been speaking to my boyfriend about him claiming the carer's element of Universal Credit for me. I'm in receipt of standard rate daily living of PIP.
He supports me with a lot of care and it would meet the 35+ hours required. I've read about the information he would need to submit to claim this, and what I was wondering is after he's done this, what happens, ie will I be contacted, do I need to verify anything or does anything else happen in order for the claim to be confirmed?
Thanks!

I'm not sure if they will contact you or not. Once he reports a change and provides your details as the person he is caring for, they will be able to verify on their systems that you are in receipt of the appropriate benefit and that no one else is already in receipt of the carers element (or carers allowance) for you. They may contact you to notify you / confirm that someone has said they are caring for you 35h/week.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Benefits & tax credits, Heat pumps and Green & Ethical MoneySaving forums. They will likely contact you only to tell you that someone has claimed CE for looking after you. They won't contact you for any other reason.

Do you live together and do you have a joint UC claim? I am only asking because if for example you were claiming ESA and receive a severe disability premium, then that would cease if he claims carers element.1

No and no, I claim UC by myself. The only thing I wasn't sure about is if him claiming it would affect my council tax benefit, so I've emailed the council to ask and am awaiting their response.Rubyroobs said:Do you live together and do you have a joint UC claim? No, it will not. If he claims the LCWRA element for himself in his UC claim then he will not be able to claim the carers element as well.honeybee1234 said:

I might be asking the obvious here, but does your boyfriend currently claim UC?

I actually thought of that but then assumed they were already claiming UC... thinking about it, that may not be the case.

He does indeed. He just has the single person element.Robbie64 said:I might be asking the obvious here, but does your boyfriend currently claim UC?1 -

Then yes, we would also be entitled to receive the carers element in addition to the single persons element. He would also no longer be expected to look for work as your carer.
