Hi all

So our virgin deal ends in September and we were looking at changing providers for broadband and TV. Not bothered about the phone line. So we pay 37 a month for 100mb and the mixit package with virgin.

Now I looked that sky and they have alot more channels for 39 a months but the problem is I don't know if they will be able to fit it. We also work full time Monday to Friday the only times they do fitting appointments and it looks like you need two appointments for broadband fitting and then it's the TV fitting the next day.

I had a look at bt TV but there's alot less channels on there. Although now adays we only really watch like channels you can get on Freeview and nextflix, Disney plus and prime.

So I don't even know it's worth getting a TV deal.

Thank you

You need to determine what channels you're currently watching.  If its mostly BBC, ITV and a bit of Channel 4 and you rarely if ever watch anything else, its pointless paying for Sky.

No good having access to six million channels if you know you won't watch most of them.

Broadband is almost always self install, so they send you a router, get your phone line working, you plug it in and it sorts itself out.  "Installing Sky" for TV purposes basically boils down to sticking a dish on a south/se/east facing wall and drilling a hole in the wall into the front room.

If you already have an old BT line into the property then there is no need for 'broadband fitting'. It's a self installed router that you just plug in to the power and phone point. You will only need to provide access for fitting of a Sky dish and if a new BT landline needs provisioning.
If you want subscription TV then you just have to take a half day off, or manage with Freeview.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you really wanted it you'd find a way.

Anyway as per your post you watch Freeview channels, some Prime, Netflix and Disney+.  Easy solution:  Get a Firestick or a Roku and that (in addition to Netflix, Prime and Disney+) will also open access to Now, which is Sky on the cheap.  Limited channels, built round on-demand, but you can get the key/main Sky channels at a fraction of the cost and no contract.

Not sure what advice you're looking for.   Could you get a Sky dish installed by an independent fitter to your schedule?  Probably, but it's likely to be more expensive.

If you work out what channels you want, then you can match them against the various services available.   Also, do you have a TV aerial at your premises that you could use to access Freeview, and possibly obtain a Freeview recorder?

What's your overall objective - lots of channels or saving money?

We went back to Sky (Sky Q) after several years of just Freesat. I'm likening the ability to download a whole series to watch at our leisure.

I do that from Freesat.  Just set the series to record.

I've never understood why people want Sky or other packages.  But I don't watch sports or a lot of other things some find interesting.

True but I'm talking about series that might not be currently being broadcast. For example I started watching Stargate:SG1 from about series 5. Now approaching the end of series 10. Sky are currently broadcasting series 1.

OP, if I were you I'd just get the cheapest broadband that suits you. You'll find you have to pay for landline anyway. From then, you can decide what streaming service you want. If you do want any Sky packages, as above, just sign up to Now TV which has 3 main packages, one of which is entertainment for the main Sky channels (roughly £10 a month), Sky Cinema is a bit more expensive, and Sky Sports is a lot more expensive. There are often deals to get it cheaper. Once you get used to how it works, it's no less hassle than having a sky box.
Are you in a Virgin cable area or is it via your landline? If it's cable, you might not get the same BB speed through your landline so you need to consider that. Also, worth trying with Virgin see if you can get it cheaper.
