Good evening: Really? My OH's input doesn't count then? :wall:

That's not what was meant at all.

No corgi engineer was needed to repair this boiler, although his input was obviously very helpful and appreciated on this money saving site and he was thanked by the OP.

  • Corgi Guy (I said Canucklehead earlier - being new to the forum & not spotting two signs ins using same log-on) was invaluable - as was 31 years of hands on engineering experience in control systems.
The emoticons in the final comments, to my mind, show no personal slight - merely highlight the change to a well intended but poorly implemented nanny state. It won't be long before we will need a regular medical check-up and a personal ration card to buy alcohol.

  • Good evening: My OH and I will look forward to your contributions as not many 'engineers' appear to post on this forum. We will continue to follow the administrator's advice posted at the top of this forum http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/announcement.html?f=39

  • And so you should. SQEP is the key here - Suitably Qualified & Experienced Personnel. For the last 9 years or so, I have also worked with pyrotechnic devices - it why I don't buy fireworks & could see regulations helping - unfortunately, it is not the fireworks that cause the problem - it is the really the end (ab)users. I'm stunned with my boiler that the service in March did not point out the fan bearings were tight - with a car I would have had an 'advisory' saying front offside wheelbearing showing signs of wear - or similar. However, the failure mode displayed on the fan assembly is wear out - given the harsh environment which the bearings have to sit in, there should be, to my mind, some sort of torque test to advise customers that Wear Out is approaching.
Thank you for your kind words - appreciated - magic site & I'll try to put something back.

  • BTW (by the way) Knowledge is indeed power unless it is shared & I believe in power sharing.

  • Hi.. a good CORGI should go beyond the minimum requirements of an annual service as outlined in the manufacturer's guide (in fact there was a bit of an argy bargy on the Utilities forum about what constitutes an annual service... I was in the middle of it ...someone suggested it should take no more than 20 minute and I differed. As you know boiler owners aren't required to put their appliances through an annual maintenance check and mandatory requirements/standards do not exist for boiler servicing. Gas Installer magazine features a fine selection of poorly installed/maintained gas appliances in the 'Eye Spy' section in every issue....unbelievably dangerous situations one and all  . More changes in the gas safety regime are in the pipeline (HSE Review 2007) but end (ab)users and substandard gas installations/maintenance (this includes CORGIs who shouldn't be touching a gas appliance) will continue to be a problem for the foreseeable future.

P.S. And we do share our power as demonstrated by the numbers under my avatar ;) too much time on here me thinks...time to cut back...energy efficiency and all that!

  • Does Corgi Guy know you call it 'my avatar'? :D

ps. I don't think that each of you averaging about a posting per day is excessive use of resources - and you ARE helping others.
