Actually _ may have already shown that the APS is NOT at fault - unless it has particularly high stiction (ie it needs more air flow than it normally would to operate) - so the man speed may well be the issue - no blockages in the APS pipes I've looked at to date (I haven't removed APS so can't check internally - not sure that I could if I did remove it). Also any partial block in the flue would lower air flow and therefore no trigger APS. The fact the flames seemed to spill out instead of being drawn up (by fan & flue) during the test above I took to be a symptom of the inner front case panel being removed (as it has to be to carry out the test). However, again that may indicate Fan efficiency being low.Yorkie

Hi
I can't give you any more advice except that you should put the combustion door back on, and everything else and get someone who knows what they are doing.
Please.

Appreciate the concern - I really do. I won't touch Gas or Plumbing (lines/valves/fittings). The electrics & control (pneumatic or otherwise) are my forte - And I isolate completely before working - unlike others I know. OK so my training was on military aircraft, household electrics and three phase supply before majoring in electro mechanical devices pricipally in the automotive field. APS is working as it should. Hence the fan performance, efficiency or control is de facto the problem - and I can now say that the fan does not always run which shows the APS is doing exactly what it is there for - protecting against build up of exhaust fumes indoors.Yorkie

OK - all systems check out. There is 240 V at the fan terminals, the pump runs but the fan doesn't. The fan is harder to turn than one would expect and hence has either worn bearings or deteriorated windings.
Slow running fan threw me at the start - but the TP result from the Gas Soundness re-directed effort away from the APS, which needs the fan operating at a reasonable efficiency before the APS can operate and allow the main burner to initiate.
Sincere thanx to all. Looks like a day off work to source and fit replacement fan motor.Yorkie

Fan Assembly arrived (went AWOL in Royal mail) and was fitted today. Boiler now running extremely well - fires first time, never used to, demands for hot water are met without dropping off and going cold on you, and the most noticeable change - Boiler can't be heard in Kitchen & Lounge anymore.
Big Thankyou to allYorkie

Well done, I do like a happy ending.:D0

The plastic impeller/fan turned on the spindle before the fan would rotate - the new fan spins with the lightest finger touch - surprised the 160mA fuse didn't blow.
Fangs for the observations;)Yorkie
