What did Barclays say to you? Was it the fraud operations department ? Or the fraud team? Or account review team.Selina08 said:Thank you… I have already called them today and they informed me about the investigation.Should I call them again or just go into a branch and speak to someone tomorrow
well us on this fourm cannot help we are here to give you advice.Your the only one who can ring and go to branch to resolve this investigation mess
has anyone of your student freinds put any funds in your account and told you to move it? To make a “fee?”Have you been doing anything untoward? You need to look back on your statements and think that’s what have caused your account to block. And you need to ask Barclays what infomation they need to be satisfied your not doing fraud.0 -
How large is large? If over £10k, has your father declared the cash he was bringing into the UK? https://www.gov.uk/bringing-cash-into-ukSelina08 said:It’s quite a large amount of money1 -
I called the telephone banking number on the back of my card. I suppose the guy is from telephone banking/customer service? After I told the guy what was going on he put me on hold for a brief moment then told me about the cancellation of my debit card and the “investigation”, no further information could be disclosed.Standingstrong said:

And you need to ask Barclays what infomation they need to be satisfied your not doing fraud.I didn’t do anything like helping a “friend” out or making any fees. The card is pretty much just for my very own personal use and to move small amount of funds into my other bank accounts for daily expenses. At the moment I don’t think I can log in and look at my statements, but I will try again on a desktop.Again, thank you very much for your advice and input.1 -
Exactly what daliah just said above. How large is it? Over 10k , over 50k over £100k?You need to tell us here how large is this payment what went in and who by?One of your student friends? Has someone contacted you to say can I use your account to put this X amount of money in?And it’s backfired and got your account blocked?that’s the reason why your account has been put “under review” for an investigation for this “large” payment.
So you need to get all your evidence for this payment and ring the bank and ask who to send the proof of source where the funds come from to the bank so then they can possibly unblock it.You need to do this today. Not next week. This is very serious you need to start telling the bank what needs to be done. And what infomation they need to help with this payment investigation
you can get a CAT6 CIFAS which will lock you out of banking for 6 whole years. Or even worse a conviction of bank fraud.0 -
Well it sounds like your account is under review due to this large payment you said what went into your account.Selina08 said:I called the telephone banking number on the back of my card. well that’s good that you haven’t disclosed any personal information to anyone or accepted anyones offer to put money into your account as that would be classed as a money mule. You need to see if you can log into your online or mobile banking to check statements and go over everything to see if anything looks dodgy or what the bank thinks dodgy
have you rang the fraud departments and asked why your account is no longer functioning? No worries that’s what we are here for. We are here to give you advice on matters like this.1 -
It's not so much that they *can* investigate it's that they legally *have* to investigate. Failing to properly investigate suspicious activity can land banks with massive fines. Last year HSBC was fined £64 million because there AML systems weren't good enough, and RBS was fined £45 million for failing to report suspicious activities.Standingstrong said:They can investigate and if deemed fit they can forward a SAR onto the NCA (national crime agency )
they have 7 days to investigate and if they want to continue investigating they can extend it. and if it’s anything dodgy they can forward it onto the authorities.
I know this sounds cruel but your going to have to wait until the investigation has completed on Barclays side.Keep ringing for answers and have they told you you can only withdraw salary or benefits? If you do have salary or benefits going in , go to branch with proof and they’ll let you have it there and thenIf they’ve told you that then it’s definitely under “review” as they say
Moreover - once the investigation has started and/or been handed over to the NCA they *cannot* tell the customer anything about this - doing so can land them in prison.4 -
No, he’s well aware of the limit for bringing cash into the UK. The cash he brought with him was around £3-4k, then he used his HSBC accounts to make transfers or withdrawal (after which he gives the cash to me to deposit). I think what we did was a bit stupid and odd but he is unfamiliar with UK banking system and he much prefers this way.Daliah said:

Thank you, I will ring the fraud department to see if they can give me any new information. I do think that it’s very possible that Barclays is suspicious of the semi-frequent deposits of cash and has been monitoring my account…Standingstrong said:

Your posts are coming across as incredibly hysterical, somewhat aggressive and not particularly helpful.Standingstrong said:

You can't just "keep ringing" or demand to know what they're investigating you for. Randomly showing up at a branch insisting you want to "prove where your money is coming from", if you haven't been asked to do that, will also do nothing. "We" don't need to know how large the transfers were - it will tell us nothing at all about the situation.
Everyone needs to just drop the hysterics, stop scaring the OP about financial crime investigations, and wait for the investigation to be completed (which you actually started your posts with - despite then ranting about how the OP has to start constantly badgering Barclays RIGHT NOW!). These investigations are annoyingly opaque so it may result in the account being closed with no recourse, they might decide everything is fine or they might want some more information (e.g. proof of where the money is coming from). Either way, you just need to wait.11 -
It's highly unusual to withdraw money from a UK account in cash, and then deposit that cash into another UK account.Selina08 said:

Presumably your father has online and/or telephone access to his UK account, so he should have made payments to you by bank/telephone transfer. What's done has obviously been done, but in future he should be using electronic transfers.2
