She is 38 she would not make over 123 pounds a week. Basically she started a new part time job so she left the nursing home but told them she would do banking hours. Then she lost the other job. Now she can't find a job that suits as we have a 2 and a half year old. And only has banking at nursing home which is not many hours at all
Besides receiving class 3 NI credits for being in receipt of Universal Credit, she will also receive NI credits if she is claiming Child Benefit for the child (up to the age of 12), so she definitely should not be paying voluntary NI contributions. Assuming you are working, make sure the Child Benefit claim is in her name, not yours.

I work around 40 hours a week my wife at th4m moment and unless she gets another part time job earns less then  123 pounds per week. Son two and a half years old. So what your saying is because of these circumstances her contributions are or should be getting paid by universal credit? I think this is what your saying I am just checking to be sure
Correct, yes, anyone in receipt of Universal Credit is automatically entitled to Class 3 NI credits towards their state pension.

Sorry for been dumb but just to confirm. Anyone on universal credit and claiming child credit is entitled to national insurance?

Anyone on universal credit is entitled to NI credits

Anyone claiming Child Benefit is entitled to NI credits.

Anyone on universal credit and claiming is entitled to to NI credits.

She gets NI credits for 2 reasons because she is getting Universal Credit.
she also gets them because she is getting the Child Benefit for an under 12 year old. That’s presuming as the Child benefits claim is in her name not yours.

If she stops getting the UC she will still get the credits for the CB and the other way round (but it’s unlikely she would stop getting CB).

This is what our work coach replied to me today when I asked if my wife's contributions are paid while looking for another job on universal credits

    Hi
As Universal Credit is a benefit, there is no Tax, NI or Pension payable as this is only payable via an employer/ earnings received via employment.
Unfortuneately I cannot advise you on this as this must be a discussion between Maria and her employer.

    Regards
    Caitlin

The contributions aren’t “paid” she is getting Class 3 credits. The work coach has mis understood the question or doesn’t understand NI Credits.

DWP don't pay any NI for her.  She gets credits, effectively the equivalent of them being "paid" without any money changing hands.

I suspect you asked DWP/UC the wrong question.

All you need to know is that the child benefit is in HER name not yours.  If it is in her name then you can stop worrying for the next 9 years.

Anyone claiming Child Benefit is entitled to NI credits.

Just to clarify - only for children under 12, after which the NI credits stop.
