EasyJet flight cancellation - partner & 2 young children

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can advise.

Just spoke to my partner who just walked into Gatwick and was told her easyjet flight to Berlin is cancelled due to bad weather.  They have rebooked her for this Saturday.

She is there with her young children.  Does anyone know if they have to provide hotel accommodation or anything else?  Also would it be usually to get compensation also?

I realise the weather is not easyJet’s fault.

Many thanks,
Richard

Under the regulations (previously EC261/2004) Easyjet must offer an alternative flight that is convenient to the passenger, including alternative forms of transport or other airlines. They won't of course.
If easyjet refuse, you have the right to arrange an alternative flight yourself, pay for it and reclaim off of Easyjet. If this requires an overnight stay, EJ must arrange and pay for this too. Including reasonable food and non alcholic drinks.
Compensation not usually payable if weather related on the flight concerned.

Is the bad weather at Berlin or Gatwick ?

As above when a flight is cancelled- the airline has to give you a choice of refund or re-routing at the earliest opportunity.

If you can find an alternative flight that leaves sooner - even with another airline you can request that Easyjet book you on to this - however as your partner has already accepted an alternative Easyjet flight - (booked for Saturday )- she may struggle to get Easyjet to change this now.

If because of the cancelled flight your partner and kids need a hotel at Gatwick between now and Saturday- they should be asking Easyjet to book this for them . They should also keep receipts for “reasonable” meals to claim for re-inbursement.

Bad weather is usually seen as outside of the airlines control and therefore unless there is any other factor that caused the flight to be cancelled they would not be entitled to claim additional compensation .

Easyjet.com still selling seats on the ex LGW flight at 18:00 tomorrow (Thu 18/6).

Today’s 19:50 cancelled.  Inbound a/c from BER not operating due to poor weather (thunderstorms) in parts of Europe and southern England.
