Post office issues again

I use different post offices and a mail centre for my post and today I went to the main ‘crown’ post office locally. I do have issues with this branch as every single clerk does things different and gets cross if I don’t remember how they do it. I print labels for parcels but am currently using stamps for large letters and some clerks want a proof of posting sheet for the LLs but some refuse them and will give me a till receipt for each of them. Some weigh my parcels, some don’t , some require me to hand my parcels over and others want them stacked in the main waiting area ready to be bagged. I am used to this hassle.
Today though the clerk refused point blank to take my large letters , apparently the rules now say that LLs can have no proof of posting. I showed her my pre written POP sheet and she refused to stamp it, said she wasn’t allowed. I asked what I was supposed to do and she said just put them in the box, or leave them un stamped, queue up and get 3 sent, then queue up again to get 3 more stamped etc (they will only take 3 un stamped parcels at a time).
I was on my way out and didn’t want to have to carry my LLs with me so refused to leave and clerk called her manager who confirmed that I was allowed to get my POP stamped. I went to hand over my LLs and was told they don’t check or count them ‘as it’s me’ and they will just stamp my POP and I can put the letters in the post box on the way out.

It’s all getting a bit silly.

In my top 3 most loathed places to frequent are post offices.Dentists and hair salons are the other 2.I’ve no idea why PO clarks can be so pedantic and unpleasant, although
one did shed some light once telling me “ they make no money on pre printed postage labels”.Occasionally I’m treated like a trusted regular and and my weighed and paid parcels are acceptable without re weighing individually. On one occasion I had a large letter weighing 101g on their scales, 100g on mine before adding the label, but had to stump up the extra …
On another occasion at same PO with same clerk, a 60g Jiffy bag large letter took a push to get through the size gauge but it went through, no matter, it must slip through with ease I was told while the size gauge was held flat and my parcel dropped from height for demonstration, so that will be £2.85 instead of the pre paid £1.05.Honestly!
The irony …because now,I often send a large letter size package over 100g under £20 as a small parcel for the delivery confirmation as it is 20p cheaper than a signed for and negates the chance of INR and the length of process to claim and the helpful clerks will advise “ you could have sent this large letter”
Perhaps we all need to spend a day behind the PO counter to understand the mood swings,0 -
It appears you need to have certain traits to work in a post office. Grumpy, rude and arrogant are the most sought after! Same skill set as doctors receptionists 😆
It’s no wonder people don’t use POs much anymore. I stopped going to the main one nearest to me because all of the ladies behind the counter will happily chat to the old age regulars for as long as they want while the queue is out the door, but are grumpy as hell with everyone else.0 -

My local Post Office are fab. They open at 8am and close at 7pm and are open Sundays. So little chance of queueing up. The staff are efficient and know their job inside-out.1
