It's not useless, it's still measuring how much energy you're using. It's now working like an old-fashioned non-smart meter and you need to give monthly readings.

I have done lots of number crunching today, and with the help of our EV charger hypervolt app, have worked out that approx 1/3 of our electricity kWh is charging EV - based on the 9 months usage, I would estimate that EV charging usage would be approx 4453kWh per annum, approx £1,246 per annum. Even taken this into account, remaining electricity usage still very high.

Interestingly, the month when my son and daughter were in LA for almost 3 weeks (March) the electricity usage was at its highest - that has me totally baffled as no gaming PC nor air con etc?!

Given that 1kwh of charge is approx 4 miles have you done over 16000 miles in 9 months not sure you said you did that much mileage earlier in the post hence why I ask.

Lastly find that crypto mining machine 🤣🤣🤣

Your maths are correct based on advertised range, however, that does not appear to represent real life range when you factor in heating in winter, air con in summer, lights etc etc.

My Renault Zoe has 2780 miles from new (Nov 2021)
My son's Renault Zoe has 2600 miles from new (Sept 2021)
My husband had an electric company car from Feb to Jun and used approx 3000 miles
We now share the 2 Renault Zoe's between the 3 of us to save on costs.

So in summary, more like 8400 miles between us in the 9 months. That in itself is a bit of an eye opener that we are not getting anywhere near the advertised range per kWh!!!

I know this was partly a joke but hopefully the OP double and triple checks that no crypto mining is going on now. Gaming PC's, aircon, EV's, fridge freezers can all be expensive to run but crypto mining is in a totally different world of expense.

Cavity walls have been around since the 1920. Cavity wall insulation became mandatory in the 1990's. So this 1980's house should have at least the former.
Yes, clearly, hence my reference to insulation for both cavity walls and lofts, which our '80s build home benefited from...

It might be 4 miles per kwh from the battery (although that is pretty good, normally only achieved in summer tbh) but from the plug will be about 10% more due to charging (in)efficiency.
    I think....

I'll pass on the leccy side, as there are simply too many variables, but the gaming PC and aircon have to be the first subjects to investigate.
Gaming PC, 600-700 watts draw when heavily gaming would not be unreasonable. However that is going to be dwarfed by the air con which I could at the bottom end be drawing 2kW and could even for just one room be up to 5kW if they are trying to extract the waste heat from a 700 watt PC, as well as high ambient temperatures.
Domestic aircon doesn't draw 2kW, it may be rated at that but it is a heat pump so for a 2kW unit expect to use somewhere around 600W.

I'm sure he meant 2kwh/Day, On cool days just the Fan would be 60w to 80w = 1.9kwh/Day.

@MariaAH aI think this needs pointing as well on your journey to money saving

So 4483 kWh for approx 8400 miles that's 1.9 miles per kW

EV's are like any other car in that if you drive them a certain way they will be less economical.

It is also worth checking tyres are at the correct pressures.

I only bring this up as I don't think you are on an EV tariff(correct me if wrong) so don't get cheap charging overnight for your EV's and you want to cut down costs.

Getting the miles per kWh to 2.5 will save you 1500kwh for 9 months and 2000kWh for the year.

This is worrying for electric car owners isn’t it? If you get 4 miles per kWh at best, and soon many people could be paying nearly 60p/kWh if they haven’t managed to fix or get on an EV specific tariff it could cost them more than a petrol car to run. It currently costs me about 8p a mile at the current prices of circa 169.9p. I know luckily the majority would have managed to fix much less than 60p to charge their cars.
