At least, that's what makes sense to me.BootsMullery said:The only way round this for the OP would seem to be to go to Notification preferences (click the Notifications Bell icon just along from the Bookmark one, then select the three lines at the right side of the header box) then deselect the "notify me when people comment on my discussions" and deselect "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in",
Ensure that "Notify me when people comment on my Bookmarked discussions" IS selected.
Once this is done they will need to always Bookmark any discussions that they do wish to receive Notifications on.
I think I'll just stick to ignoring it & resisting the temptation to respond.
Click on their name to take you to their Profile. In the top right corner is a red box with head and shoulders shape, click and select "ignore". I've never used this but I understand that this would mean that you would no longer see that persons reply posts.Bob0 -
If you click on the bookmark icon which shows red then that removes the bookmark and shows a red outline instead. It works that way for me.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

A bit like complaining you hate brown sauce yet putting it on everything anyway.0 -
Well i think I've got it to work how I want. 😞
I've disabled notifications on threads I've commented on, but kept them on for mentions, bookmarks and own discussions.
So now I'll either add or remove bookmarks as i go, having a clear out of old dead threads every now and again.
That should do what I want! How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
The sad/disappointing thing, going back through my bookmarks, are how many threads are left hanging by the OP without resolution or updates. Even when I've tagged the OP for an update.
I know it's not compulsory, but at least we can put threads to bed, as it were. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -
I just came on here to see if there has been a resolution to this as I made the mistake on making one post to a retirement thread years ago. This thread has now runs to over 226 pages long and sees huge bursts of posts from time to time.
I lost interest in it months ago, yet I've been sent had 80+ emails about every new post made on it just this week with no apparent way to deselect it.
Being able to subscribe and unsubscribe to threads should not be a feature people are "waiting for" on a forum as prestigious as MSE in 2023... I used to post and later assist in moderting a vBulletin forum back in 2000-2001 which had this feature that worked perfectly 22 years ago!• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
