If you don't want any notifications for responses on a specific thread but don't mind them on others, can you turn them off for that one thread?

When viewing the thread, there should be a little bookmark icon you can click to stop following that particular thread.
It appears to the right of the thread title.Official MSE Forum Team member. Please report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The thread I don't want to receive any more numbers on my bell from, I clicked it but then it was as though I'd bookmarked it because after clicking it (once) it was coloured in & when I hovered over it it brought up a message "unbookmark".
Well as I imagine that bookmarking would create notifications and unbookmarking would remove them - the thread wasn't bookmarked in the first place, I just created it, but I no longer want to receive numbers on the bell about it as it has ran its course yet there's some members being a little childish.
I imagine then, is it an all (threads) or nothing situation then, where I will get notifications for either everything or nothing at all?1 -
In that case you'd have to tweak your notification settings here to see if you can achieve roughly the desired result:

The provider of our forum software has some improvements to the notifications features in the pipeline, as they (and we) are aware the options are a little inflexible right now, so watch this space.Official MSE Forum Team member. Please report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
AIUI once you've commented on a thread, that's it, you can't not get notifications in isolation. It's all or nothing.
You can remove a bookmark, but that will only stop notifications if you've not commented on it.
Eg, I no longer have any premium bonds and I can't not get notifications on that "winners" thread (as I have contributed) so every month I now get "spammed" with reply notifications. ☹️
Am I wrong? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

I'll just have to hope the other members get bored & stop with the silliness.0 -

What "silliness"?
If it's a thread you started, you could always ask for it to be closed (or removed)
If it's the one on the Motoring forum, "silliness" is par for the course over there.

Granted I could've capped it sooner by just simply not responding, but this constant picking someones post apart playing point scoring, trying to get one over on someone is very tedious. We're on a money saving forum, we're not in a courtroom.
Had enough of it now. If I stop feeding the trolls then they'll have to go elsewhere to get their fix.
And if they land here then that just shows they're looking to continue the nonsense.1 -

The only way round this for the OP would seem to be to go to Notification preferences (click the Notifications Bell icon just along from the Bookmark one, then select the three lines at the right side of the header box) then deselect the "notify me when people comment on my discussions" and deselect "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in",
Ensure that "Notify me when people comment on my Bookmarked discussions" IS selected.
Once this is done they will need to always Bookmark any discussions that they do wish to receive Notifications on.Bob1 -

At least, that's what makes sense to me.BootsMullery said:The only way round this for the OP would seem to be to go to Notification preferences (click the Notifications Bell icon just along from the Bookmark one, then select the three lines at the right side of the header box) then deselect the "notify me when people comment on my discussions" and deselect "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in",

I think I'll just stick to ignoring it & resisting the temptation to respond.0 -
Most threads die eventually, if ignored.
There are so many new threads in the energy forum, that it's almost impossible to keep up.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1
