Been on PIP for 5 years or so. Had a review assessment form come through in January, sent off the same week as I received it.
Did get an SMS a few weeks back saying they are still reviewing it etc and I may need to go to an assessment.

The form basically just asked if there had been any changes since last time.

How much longer am I likely to wait ? I've never been to an assessment before so is it likely I will have to go to one ?

Believe it or not you could be waiting as long as a year for a decision. This is because they are continuing to concentrate on new claims rather than reviews.
Yes, the review forms usually ask if there's been any changes but you should still treat it as a new claim. Most people have assessments so you should expect one of those, even though your current decision was paper based. Assessments are either face to face, video call or telephone.

OK thanks. So the likelihood is that I'll need an assessment?

If I call and ask could they give me an estimated timescale ?

That will be likely asking "how long is a piece of string" Backlogs are huge so the best thing to do is put it out of your mind until you hear something. I realise that's very difficult to do but it's not going to help to constantly think about it.

My friend has been waiting for Carers allowance decision for just over a year
    Everything is taking forever.

My friend who I care for was due an assessment 2 years ago.
The brown letter dropped onto the mat, We were expecting to fill out the forms as usual.
Only to be gob smacked, with a q0 year award.
Which takes them over pension age.

As long as your award is continued until they make a decision I would not worry to much.

That doesn't seem right - three months seems more typical.

Has he chased the CA unit up?

'Over a year' - then It's likely something has gone awry with the application process.

Its taken 7 months for my wife to get a text saying PIP has been awarded. That was 3 weeks ago,  still no paperwork or payment.

Your wife needs to ring them. If this is a first time claim and she wasn't transferring from DLA then money should have been in the bank between 3-5 working days after it's paid. The decision letter should have been received by now too.
