These companies just make it impossible to talk to anyone. evri do have a phone number but when you call, its all automated and i could not get to a point of talking to someone, no matter what option i picked, it always ended up just saying bye to me.

It used to be the case that a way round the "press button xx" to do something was to wait on the line, not press any buttons and eventually you'd get a human operator. Whether this will work in your case or if it will achieve anything I don't know.
  • This is why I send anything expensive via RM SD.

Yes it may cost more but if it avoids anything like this it is worth it. It is tracked all the way to the extent that we have to sign for all SD items before delivery.

I can't see how special would have helped with a claim item was swapped -buyer received the packet allegedly opened, there is no dispute about tracking actually showing something was delivered.

Special though would have been a much better bet for insurance purposes as cameras are covered then, unlike Evri where item was sent with no compensation available at all.

Are Evri one of the companies that take a photograph upon delivery? If so you may be able to see if that bag had the brown tape on where the supposed slit occurred? Obviously if that tape isn't there you have some recourse.

Unfortunately I have seen a very similar scam to this one doing the rounds on social media because it is virtually impossible for the seller to prove whether it was the buyer or the courier company. The buyer has worded their message in such a way that makes it seem like you sent the wrong item and as such can hold you accountable, where as if I had received a wrong item and it looked like the packaging had been tampered with, it would be something I point out to the seller.

Either way, as the seller you are the one who get's stitched up.
A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.
It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.
A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.

That's why I mentioned earlier that I wondered whether this kind of scam (assuming it is) would be tried, or would work against a Royal Mail delivery. If ebay refunds anyone who makes this claim even if RM deliver it then they are an unreliable platform for selling.

Seller would win an INR claim with proof of delivery, if a SNAD claim was opened though it becomes more difficult as there is no way of knowing when the item disappeared , either en route or when a dodgy buyer received it.

Hey, not replied back for a while sorry.

Evri did take a picture of the parcel on his door step and it did have the brown tape on the parcel, which proves to me that it was Evri that swapped the camera and not the buyer.

I mentioned this in my claim via packlink, I also said to them is it possible the parcel was weighed at the very start and would it have been weighed near the end of its journey at all to see if there was a difference?

They didn't get back to me regarding that, but i thought it was a good point lol

Anyway, they have actually replied to me saying they have accepted my claim and is now with their claim dept to value it.

I have responded back asking will this amount come down to the value of the items or the insurance amount, because I sent the invoice for the camera, but have pointed out to them there was a lot of accessories that haven’t been costed.

They haven’t responded back to me yet so still don't know the answer.

    Regards

    James

Thanks for the update. I was inclined to doubt the buyer as I have been scammed in the past, but I did read a thread on the ebay forums where someone had sent an item with Evri to a buyer with a lot of good feedback and believed Evri had stolen the item.

Out of curiosity what did they say about cameras / electronic items being on their exclusion list? Maybe you could update us on what the claims department says. I hope it works out for you.

having just lost a box from zooplus containing dog biscuits non delivery by evri (new name for hermes) their tracking system just stated out for delivery today for last 36 hours, i phoned zooplus who discovered it was lost ?!! they arranged another delivery with another company within minutes and said they would make a claim against evri, maybe just avoid having evri do deliveries so no more 'lost' parcels- i hope it resolves in your favour, good luck

No courier or RM will give you a value higher than the sale price. The value of the item is what someone paid for it.

Also parcels are not routinely weighed unless the courier thinks that the weight might be under stated to cheat on the cost of sending.
