Hi all, i have an iphone 6s with a dying battery that needs service. I do find it incredibly annoying that we now make phones that dont have easily replaceable batteries but i guess its the modern way.

Anyway my thoughts are;

Do a diy battery replacement, but which are the best battery kits and which are just cheap rubbish? Has anyone done it? how easy and successful can this be?

Make the big switch to an android, possibly from the popular Samsung range and with a micro SD slot. Is it easy to make the switch and save all your data/move it across platforms?

The big question, which is better ? What are the advantages of one over the other?

I dont have big demands and the tech level of the iphone 6s is fine for me so anything extra is a bonus.

Thanks all
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

It looks like a reasonably easy battery swap as it goes , I'd attempt it

The switch to android is probably the better choice for future security updates on the phone  , look at Xiaomi/Poco phones which can be purchased for around £200 or less ( I'm on my 3rd or 4th Xiaomi phone , first one sourced from China but later ones from their UK website) and have SD card slots .

The switch from IPhone to android is easy , some phones can cope with it on set up but there are free apps available to do it .

From memory I needed to turn iMessage off on the iPhone before the swap but that may not be an issue these days

  • Worth looking at the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro. A lot of phone for a very reasonable price.

I've bought a number of batteries from Replacebase, I've never had a bad one.

    £10 for the 6s

I would stay with the 6s and simply replace the battery.

It's running ios 15 and that's as far as as it goes but you may as well continue to use it given the cost of the battery.

UPDATE OK i have now exchanged the baattery in my iphone 6s.  I obtained a replacement battery and small tool kit from replacebase for about £15.

I have some experience in fine work and electronics and it took me about an hour.

My best advice to anyone considering it is that many of the youtube videos make this look like a relatively easy diy job.

Bare in mind that this involves a great deal of care, patience and working closely with very small parts. The potential for a diyer to mess it up is fair.
