Dishwasher help - which report?

Hi
My kitchen has decided to fall apart - the dishwasher has broke (pump has gone), the washing machine is on the way out (bearings are going), microwave went bang last week, and handle broken on the cooker. On top of this the units are on their way out, paint is peeling on the tiles and the windows need replacing. So with all this to replace I am in serious need of money saving advice.
I want to make sure I buy the best washing machine and dishwasher I can afford as these are the things we use the most. So I have been searching for info. I found that someone had posted the Which findings on here for washing machines which was very helpful. But I am having less luck with dishwashers. Can anyone help by either recommending brands they have got themselves or pointing me to any quality reviews - Which or likewise. Obviously with so much to buy any savings I can make would help me immensely. At the moment I am trying to hold on until after Chrtistmas for the chance of some bargains.
Thanks for your help
Karen

Its very difficult to recommend any particular make cos as soon as you do somebody pops up and says they have one and its a right dog....
Only advice really is to buy a reasonable quailty machine at a reasonable price......
ie we replaced our 15 year old tumble dryer recently and looking around we saw dryers from £150 up to £1200 !!!!!
Needless to say we purchased one around £3000 -
Good afternoon: This is an excellent resource for all things white goods related... http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=list_pages_categories&cid=8

fantastic - that was just the kind of thing I was looking for. Now I just need to find some deals in the sales!0

I bought a pump for my washing machine from ebay 18months ago for less than £10 delivered and it is still going strong lot cheaper than a new machine0

I did consider having the bearings done for the washing machine - apparently it will cost about £70 - but they have been done before and the machine is a cheap Servis one bought before I had kids and loads of washing!! It is already 6 years + old and the door handle is broken on it as well - which we have tried to fix but we cannot get the door apart. So I think it is better to get a new one rather than spend money on this one only for something else to go wrong on it. It may be the wrong decision but I guess 6 years plus is good for a Servis washing machine.
The other alternative is to pick up a cheap one to see me through until I completely replace the kitchen - not sure if this wont be a waste of money though.0 -
The problem with white goods these days is that they're not really built to last. They're effectively disposable - so when they wear out, you chuck 'em out and get a new one!!
For that reason alone, I tend to buy mid-price range and a brand which has a good build and/or reliability reputation. Even that's more difficult now, though as one manufacturer buys other ones. I used to rate AEG .... but now they're owned by Electrolux, whom I wouldn't have rated at allWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I had the same dilemma when my ten year old washer dryer 'died' I couldn't get the bearings out without specialised tools, and didn't think it was worth paying someone to come and do it since it was pretty old.
When I asked around, all the people I spoke to saif white goods weren't built to last and there wasn't much to choose. We ended up getting a new washing machine from Comet, on special offer at £199 with a really large load capacity and 1600rpm spin speed. It's a Hoover brand, and hasn't had any problems in the three years we have had it- touch wood!!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

quick tip
Dont over load your washing machine, everyone with knackered bearings swears blind that they dont but 99% do.0 -
yes I probably do overload it :embarasse -better not do that with the next one then.0
