EDF Standing Charges
I think EDF is double charging me/us with their Standing Charges. I have a smart meter and the home monitor shows a jump of ca £0.40 every day always at 1am. That's a huge jump! They say it shows their daily Standing Charges but that's Not my usage, which the monitor supposed to show. So they are adding their standing charges to my usage daily on the monitor. And then they add their standing charges separately onto our/my bill as well on top of my usage. This is double charging!!! The home monitor is connected to the smart meter, it's getting the sygnal from there and supposed to work together with the smart meter. Of course EDF says they don't double charge me and the monitor doesn't work with the smart meter, but it doesn't make any sense to me. Why are they adding their standing charges to my usage on the monitor? I can see it on the internet that a lot of people are complaining about this and they are also horrified about this. I don't believe EDF. What do you people think about this? Any sensible explanation anyone?

The monitor in the house is not your bill, it is simply indicating your use and will add the standing charge every day to your units consumed cost to show the total daily cost for your energy use.Your bill is made up of the kWh use as reported by the actual meter and the standing charge. You are not being charged twice.2

The standing charge is added on the IHD so you can see your total cost for the day.
If they don't do it the next person will complain that the amount on the IHD is 40p lower per day and they are overcharged on the bill.
Just check you bill, what does it say what your SC is, 40p or 80p.1 -

The IHD supposed to show my usage only but they add their Standing charges to it every day. So it must be in the usage used on the bill as well. Then they add their Standing charges on top of the usage on the bill as well. The IHD shows how much you used every day/week/month and because they add their Standing charges to it, it includes that as well. If the IHD doesn't work with the smart meter together then what's the point to have it??0

The IHD is supposed to show your daily cost, not just your usage.
The IHD gets some information from the smart meter, but has nothing to do with billing at all. If you switch off the IHD your billing will still work and it will be exactly the same.
Your supplier just downloads the meter reads, everything else calculated on their side.

Yes, the monitor shows the costs and the kWh as well. And the SC is included in that. If I tried to add up my kWh usage on the monitor to see if it was the same they quoted on the bill and don't think it would match because they are adding their SC to it on the monitor. And then they are adding their SC on top of the usage on the bill. Just have a look on the internet. Lot's of people are very surprised, angry, horrified and confused about this. It just doesn't make any sense and doesn't add up.0

The IHD is just a gadget. Only the smart meter and the meter reading submitted are relevant.
The smart meter is nice to see if there is a sudden energy spike, but that it's. If you want to see more detailed info use your suppliers app or a third part app like Bright.2 -

Walk into a shop and the price label on an item is £6. Go to the checkout and your receipt shows £5 plus £1 VAT. Does that mean you have been charged VAT twice ?As others have said, your IHD has nothing to do with your bills, it is purely an indicator of your total daily costs.3

Well, I am glad I read this post. Every morining when I get up my display shows I have used 15 or 16p between midnight and say 6am. I could never figure this out and thought my freezers needed defrosting as everthing else was switched off. My standing charge is 15p per day. Mystery solved! Every day is a school day........0
