Strange meal traditions

I cant remember the last time we had a meal at MIL/FIL's as I loathe my MIL but am polite etc:D
When we have been round for dinner, they normally give you a max 2 roast spuds each a small amount of meat (normally chicken) and all tinned veg:eek:   ...the plate sizes are very small. I asumed at first it was because they didnt have large appetites but then just half hour later they would offer sarnies or sausage rolls
We always have Shepherds Pie on a Thursday;)

No Becles is winning!! I love champagne for breakfast on special occasions - admit usually bucks fizz. Salmon and scrambled egg is a classic dish.0

I didn't realise a champagne breakfast was so popular

I usually get eggs on toast though as I don't eat fish and don't drink champagne :rotfl:0 -
Becles I'm surprised to see that there is no fresh fruit mentioned in those meals, and the vegetables are minimal. Also, all that sugary stuff seems excessive. :eek:Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Me and my brother used to have Two rounds of Cheese And Marmalde Toasted Sandwiches (White Bread buttered on the outside and made in a breville toastie maker) every night when we got home from school along with a pint mug of tea. Yep we were greedy (but not large) coz we then had a proper dinner at 7.30 with the family, followed by cereal before bed?? Wot gluttons we were0

Only TWO roast potatoes? And TINNED Veg? No wonder you don't go round very often!!! :rotfl:Penny-Pincher!! wrote: »...they normally give you a max 2 roast spuds each a small amount of meat (normally chicken) and all tinned veg:eek:"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
After the christmas dinner, my family will *always* finish with the same desert...... christmas pudding, tinned pineapple and green jelly.
Apparently, it is lovely when the green jelly melts over the xmas pudding..._pale_ (why green??!)
Now that is one tradition I have happily left with their generation..0 -
Christmas Day breakfast didn't happen, because we got a box of mint Matchmakers in our stockings (I still get a box each year from Mum) and would eat all of them. Boxing Day we always had cold turkey, mash, baked beans and Branston pickle. Once I was old enough to cook in my teens, we instituted the day-after-Boxing-Day turkey curry. With sultanas and dessicated coconut, naturally.0

The only strange thing we used to have was that after sunday tea, which was always bread and spreads (jam, marmite, chocolate spread etc) we had jelly and evap and dad would make his into a sandwich with bread and butter. I always thought it so funny. Strange thing was that when I went to visit my in laws the first time my FIL did it too.
Must be a generation thing. AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

No - this was normal days, not Christmas.
I was given a cup of tea with my breakfast, mid morning, mid afternoon and around 9pm. No other drinks were served as they don't drink soft drinks or water. I wasn't allowed to help myself to drinks so I ended up drinking water out the bathroom tap. I'm used to drinking pints of water a day, so I would get really thirsty staying there.Becles I'm surprised to see that there is no fresh fruit mentioned in those meals, and the vegetables are minimal. They don't eat raw fruit. They only have tinned fruit in desserts like trifle or cooked fruit such as apple pie. They don't eat much veg either, and what they do eat is blasted to death in the pressure cooker till it's mushy.
I like the sound of the thick soup with leftovers. I might try that! Here I go again on my own....0
