Orange end of contract - Want phone unlocking - isn't it free?

I always thought at the end of your contract they are obliged to give you the code for free.
Cheers
Well you know what thought did don't you! Depending on the make/model you may be able to unlock it for free yourself. Try the Mobile Board. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
At the end of your contract you can ask your operator for an 'unlock code' which it is legally obliged to give you, although conditions and charges may apply. This is what the £20 is for and they are within their rights to request this fee.
Try some of the unlock websites for a free code. The one I use for any Nokia phone is www.unlockme.co.uk (only for nokia phones) Excellent site, used many times for friends and family and all have had their phones unlocked successfully.Cheers

Just be careful with the free codes, you only get 3 attempts at unlocking (but unlike the sim pin, there is no overide when the 3 attempts are finished).
If you do use up your 3 attempts, then the code from Orange will NOT work when supplied, and there is no refund on unlocking codes.====0
