Help. SIM Only for OAP not on Internet
MY 77 year-old friend has an O2 PAYG Mobile. She’s recently been in Hospital and it’s costing her plus it's not easy for her to top-up.
I suggested she’d save a lot by getting a SIM only contract. Problems.
She wants to stay with O2 (Why I don't know)
She only uses calls and texts. No data requirement.
She is not on the internet nor has any wish to be.
Has anyone any suggestions on who she could phone to set-up a cheap alternative SIM Only contract in stead of her PAYG? She wants to retain her present number
Thanks.

Not sure there would be much saving on a contract compared to GiffGaff.. who run on O2 network. The £6 GoodyBag would give free calls.1

Giff gaff piggyback off 02 and have a 1GB deal that costs £6 per month. Tesco also share the 02 network and would cost £7.50 for 2GB. Lycamobile (also using the 02 network) works out at £4.80 per month. see Best Sim only deals 2022: Compare cheap contracts - Money Saving Expert
It looks like 02's best offer is £12 p.m. for 10GB. Perhaps she CAN be persuaded to move away from them!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661 -

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6374056/payg-sim-which-credit-does-not-expire-after-30-days/p1If she wants to stick to her requirement, get the O2 classic 3/2/1 for 1Mbdata/call/Call. It is no lnger available on O2 but it could get on eBay like thisJust be aware off, she can not port her old number to the the new O2, it could be ported but it will be a winding route involving the third party.0 -
Thanks Bradden it's got to be very simple for her. £x amount per month and forget about useage.1

What PAYG O2 is she on?
I can change my classic to a £5pm unlimited calls text big bundle.
Check the account and see what's there.
If an old PAYG the £5 option may be there.
(Don't think it is available on newer PAYG)
There may be other options to go contract and keep the number.
They have a form(scroll down a bit)
https://www.o2.co.uk/help/device-and-sim-support/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number
The cheap option is to take one of the 6month offers from Lyca or Lebara.
Lyca is on O2 £0.95 pm
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lyca-mobile-12gb-5g-data-unlimited-min-text100-international-min-eu-roaming-now-095p-for-six-months-ps690-after-at-lyca-3978798
The later is on vodaphone for 1p a month
Then review in 6 months( or let it roll on to the regular rate
Edit
Missed the bit about no internet needs to call.
Call O2 customer service and see what they say, the simple option may be add the £5 big bundle to the PAYG.
Top up £60 that's a year sorted.
