Bendy, what do you make of the bodged junction box behind your green arrow?  The CH motorised valve is new, while the DHW valve is older and probably original.  I can't quite follow the wires, but I am guessing that whoever replaced the CH valve simply cut and joined the wires rather than taking them down to the main control box.

Well spotted. I suspect you are right.

No idea which valve it's for, tho'. Do you reckon one is newer, or are they just 'different'?!

I guess if the box they are in conforms to regs - no idea what these are - then there isn't anything major wrong with doing that. But I'd personally rather have a pattress box mounted to the LH wall there, with the terminal strip safely inside it.

But the wiring centre is just there below it! I wonder if it was done by a slightly nervous DIYer who opened the wiring centre and nearly fainted...?
