Questions About HSBC (UK) and Lloyds Banking Apps

I wasn't sure whether this be in the banking forum or techie forum, but here goes....

I currently access my Lloyds and HSBC current accounts via their banks' website. I'm thinking about going down the app route and was wondering what people's experience has been using these apps on their 'phones in the UK and abroad. I'll be using the iOS versions.

I seem to remember reading somewhere quite a while ago that if you download the HSBC app you can no longer access their website for banking, it's one or the other... (I could be wrong about his).

Thanks

I can access both web and app with my HSBC account - and in fact did so last night. So no issues on that front. If you already have the accounts, why don't you download the apps and see what you think of them. There's nothing to stop you continuing to use the web if you don't like them.

Re HSBC, I think the OP may be getting confused with the standalone security code fob vs mobile App.

Basically the mobile app include the functionality to generate the security codes needed to log in online, authorise transaction etc, which makes the standalone fob redundant (a positive thing if you ask me).

the other thing to be aware is that Fast Payments from the HSBC app are limited to 10k per day if I am not mistaken so you may need to log in on the website  if daily transactions exceed this.

I've used the Halifax app in the UK and abroad with no problems (I think it's the same as the Lloyds one just with different branding). As stated above just give them a try.

I've become a banking app purist and it's been a few years since I've accessed any of my accounts online, meaning use of a PC or laptop, which I no longer have so in case of any need to access a bank's website I'd have to do it on my phone anyway. At first it was necessary to log in online to set up a new payee, but I think that with all my accounts it's now possible to do this with the app.

Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated!

Reading the replies seems to indicate that there's no major issues with the apps so I'll give them a go and see how I get on with them.

*Marchitiello Yes you're correct, it was the security fob / app code I was thinking about.

    Thanks again

HSBC used to be awful but was OK last time I used it.

LBG (Lloyds, Halifax, BOS) is probably one of the best offerings from the big 5, topped only by NatWest Group IMO.

I’ve always used telephone banking until recently but eventually gave up and downloaded both the Halifax and hsbc apps

Both work very well and I’ve had non issues at all

the hsbc one seems very basic compared to Halifax’s ...

but yeah, glad I bit the bullet as it makes banking so much easier

Again, thanks for the replies. I've dowloaded the Lloyds app went smoothly and once I put in my customer number etc, my accounts were visible and ready to use.  I'll be doing the same with HSBC shortly.
