Hello, we received our claim rejection email this morning from KLM following delay of flights on 4th June 22. Claim for expenses also rejected despite information in Schiphol stating book your own & claim back! Overall a 24 hour delay to our final destination. KLM states extraordinary circumstances (weather!) as the rejection reason.
going to try CAA, looking to get reimbursed for expenses as a minimum. Does anyone have any experience of this situation?
Thanks

Not sure that the CAA will be relevant as a UK-specific body if your issues were experienced while in Schiphol? Adverse weather can obviously impact on flights and for compensation purposes would generally be considered as extraordinary circumstances beyond the airline's control, but that shouldn't affect reimbursement of out of pocket expenses incurred while delayed - your rights are governed by the EC261/2004 regulations, which are mirrored at https://www.klm.nl/en/information/legal/assistance-compensation1

Here is some back ground to the delays and cancellations faced that day -

Thank you. I accept due to unfavourable weather conditions we would not be eligible for compensation but does that also apply to reimbursement for expenses accrued due to the delay? The transfer kiosks were closed due the the number of passengers (for staff safety) & the only information provided was a leaflet instructing passengers to book their own and claim back yet we have been denied our claim & are significantly out of pocket.0

I would think you should be able to claim for any ‘reasonable’ expenses during the delay.Did you look at that link that eskbanker kindly posted?0
