Sharing an EasyJet win

Options
So I thought I'd share as advice to all to never give up....

I had a cancelled flight (with less than 48 hours notice) from Gatwick to Kosovo back at the end of June. No options to re-book unless I wanted to cut short my holiday and fly 2 days later, so had to go it alone and update my national express booking to Luton, and book a flight with Wizzair (which rapidly went up in cost during the booking process off the back of the EJ cancellation as I'd imagine loads of people were having the same issue).

Anyway, I claimed my compensation (and refund) however Easyjet only initially paid out £220. I complained, and chased a couple of times, and today they confirmed 'they got it wrong' and I am in fact owed another £130. As it's based on distance, I can only assume they try to claim it was the distance in miles that were under 1,500 - when it fact it's based on km (flight distance is over 1,850km). Unless they were genuinely trying to get away with paying me less.

So just wanted to say - it's worth keeping on at them and don't just give up - the law is the law! Now hoping they also cover the national express and flight re-booking as well....

Good to hear that they (eventually) paid the correct compensation but you may struggle to secure the reimbursement of the other expenses - others have found it far from straightforward to get inter-airport transportation costs out of them and if you claimed a refund of the EasyJet ticket cost then this may compromise your ability to obtain the incremental cost of the alternative flight, as this should really be handled as a rerouting rather than a refund.

Not saying that you won't succeed, but just cautioning against thinking you've won when further battles may lie ahead!
  • Yeah I'm not expecting it, however it would be a nice to have - it's more that the flight was available and they didn't offer to re-route when I thought they had to try and find a flight with an alternate airline if possible! Can only try :)

They are legally obliged to offer you the choice between rerouting or a refund, so have to investigate options for the former, but of course in the real world this often doesn't happen, or at least not in the sort of timescales you need when having to make a quick decision!  If the cost difference makes it worth fighting for then familiarise yourself with the CAA guidance on the airline's obligations:

Re-routing in accordance with Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 261/2004
  • They paid out - £148.99 for the Wizzair flight and £12 for the bus from Victoria to Luton!!!!!

Over the moon at this genuinely
