Help - Out of pocket Expenses

Hi

our flights through Wizz Air direct got cancelled as the flight took off, had to be diverted back and then got cancelled. The return was also refunded when Wizz Air returned our payment because no alternatives could be found. What I am now trying to work out is along side any compensation what happens to the hotel charges we incurred, currency loss (in this case £122 worth!) and car parking charges which became useless. Is this on Wizz Air or an insurance claim? I have lodged a compensation claim for Wizz Air as it looks like it would be valid.

Thank you

A possible insurance claim if you have cover for these circumstances.

WizzAir are not responsible for consequential losses such as your hotel charges, currency loss and car parking.

Had these been a package holiday then a refund of the holiday cost would be expected. (flight/accommodation/transfer). I think you would still struggle claiming car parking.
  • We WERE travelling from Larnaca  airport, Cyprus, on th 19th October 2025. Upon handing over our suit cases over to the Buzz airlines desk, we, me and my wife were told that because we had not gone and confirmed both of us were going to be on that plane, on the buzz airline website 3 hours before boarding, we had to pay 50 EURO`S EACH PERSON, AND THEN WE COULD COME BACK TO DESK AND HAND OVER SUIT CASES AND BOSRD THE PLANE.
Can we ask for our money back because we had our boarding cards for this flight, from when we boarded our 1st flight from Luton airport on the 12th October 2025, the previse Sunday, when we flew to Cyprus?
Thanks for any help with this problem. We have not contacted BUZZ airlines yet.

From the first part of your post it would seem that you were not checked in for the return flight, hence the charge.  Are you sure you had checked in and were holding boarding passes for both flights? If so, did you not show the check in staff at LCA?

  • We did have boarding cards for this flight. We did not show our barding cards to the Buzz boarding desk, because we were in shock at being told we had to pay this charge/fine before we could board this flight. So we decided to pay this charge because there was not other return flights back to the UK for £100.00 (EURO`S). So we will try to ask Buzz for a refund because we have these boarding cards for this flight. Many thanks and keep you posted on the outcome.

Wizz Air or Buzz?  Different airlines.

What do you mean by the 'boarding desk'?  If you're referring to bag drop/checkin then it would seem a rather odd response not to show your boarding passes if you were challenged there about not already having checked in?
