Online Conveyancing

I am in the process of buying, and have bought and sold using traditional conveyancers in the past, but not been happy with their performance. I really like the idea of seeing a dashboard to understand what stage it's at, and what actions are in-process/blocked.

Any recommendations ?

Generally not favoured on here as they're often "conveyancing farms". Hoping someone will be able to help. Prefer a named solicitor in an actual office myself.

I have no problems with mine, in fact she is much more efficient than any local conveyancer I have come across. That being said, for a purchase ensure you get a conveyancer on your case, not a "fee earner", not an assistant.
It's important to have an experienced solicitor looking at your purchase I would say. A lot of the online conveyancers tend to use trainees over looked my a senior conveyancer and I have found their questions to the seller to be less detailed.

Proper conveyance solicitor at a bricks / mortar office recommended by previous clients is the way to go IMHO
  • I was recommended the EA solicitors (of course I was) and ended up going with them after a couple of false starts. However, they are not the EA agents really but a conveyancing "farm". They provide a dashboard online which is great. It fills up each segment so think that part is complete when it is full but then they add another task and it is no longer complete. They are also quite hard to get hold of on the phone. I prefer being able to walk into an office to speak to someone like I do with our EA's, but they have lost interest since the offer was accepted and only provide an email forwarding service now. Still, what do I expect for £15k?
  • I used an 'online' coveyancer but they give the legal work to one of a panel of solicitors they use (check that your mortgage company accept them also). They had website to track progress but it wasn't very useful.

I had some issues with them which seems to have been due to the solicitor who was handling my file leaving the company suddenly (first she had a family crisis, then she was ill then she had just gone!).

I used a local high st solicitors the previous time and everything was done via phone/email anyway, never met them once.

I've not met anyone who's had a good experience of online conveyancing...I'm sure there are exceptions but I'd definitely steer clear

I used eWay because my usual high street solicitor/conveyancer had gone there. I was very happy with the process, but he has since retired and I have no idea whether everyone there is as good.

eWay is the portal used by my solicitors so I assume it is a general service

FWIW....    eWay is owned by a company called Simplify Group.  So I suspect you were using a firm (or brand) they own.

It seems that eWay was one of the systems that went down because of a cyber attack last year, which paralysed Premier Property Lawyers (and other Simplify Group companies).

The firms owned by Simplify Group include:
    • Premier Property Lawyers
    • DC Law
    • JS Law
    • Gordon Brown Law
    • Advantage Property Lawyers
    • Cook Taylor Woodhouse Solicitors

Additionally, Premier Property Lawyers have 60+ trading names / brands - so could you have been dealing with them through one of their band names.

There's a list Premier Property Lawyers' trading names here (scroll down a long way) : https://www.clc-uk.org.uk/cms/cms.jsp?menu_id=26133&divname=premier+property+lawyers
