For your issue, which is just a dying battery, leave the iPad connected to mains power throughout and do a normal iCloud backup (i.e. over a Wi-Fi connection) as described here - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211228
Apple instructions Extract:How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iCloudIf you have a PC or Mac computer with iTunes installed you can connect to that via the USB charger/data cable and backup (and restore older backups) via that. Follow these instructions- Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
- Go to Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud.
- Tap iCloud Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process ends. Under Back Up Now, you'll see the date and time of your last backup.
