iPhone water resistance & misleading advertising

  • It depends on what these "splashes" actually were.

iPhones are not waterproof but are water resistant.  Submerging a phone in water is not the same as directing water at it, which is the IP69K standard that iPhones do not adhere to.

Either way, as you want to enact your consumer rights, as the iPhone 12 Pro hasn't been sold for nearly 12 months, you'll need a report from an expert stating it is inherently faulty.

So Apple are selling a water resistant phone that is only guaranteed water resistant on the day of purchase, but will not be covered under warranty for any water issues because "wear and tear" on the phone allows water ingress?

Have you ever dropped your phone at all, or had the screen replaced, or anything that would prevent it being water resistant?

I would be taking it to a phone expect to write a report saying the phone shows no sign of damage that would prevent the phone being water resistant, so the phone must therefore be inherently faulty.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It is complicated, a well looked after phone will likely remain sealed for many years, a badly looked after phone will not. Twisting of the phone body (torsion) will damage seals, as will drops, excessive temperatures (being left in direct sunlight for hours) etc. Third party repairs also normally never get the seals back right, battery or screen replacements, that kind of thing.

The mail cause of damage to the seals is twisting, this major cause of this is people who put their phone in the back pocket of jeans, however there are many other potential causes.

Worth a try, but I suspect that finding such an expert is going to be difficult and even if found, I am not sure a legal case is going to be winnable against Apple.
