Sainsburys on-line delivery fails to deliver

Stuck at home with Covid, so did an on line Sainsburys order. All confirmed, and expected, but the slot came and went. Rang them to be told that the store has IT problems and are not delivering any orders at the moment.

No communication from them about this, and it took ages for them to answer the phone at the help centre. The best they can do is a delivery tomorrow, and, of course, with covid I can't just pop into the store for a few things for today. Can't send from another store because... well, I'm not really sure why not, but they can't.

I've not used on-line delivery for groceries very much, and I'm curious to know if this is a typical experience, or have I just been unlucky?

  • Just unlucky. I've had two cancelled deliveries in 20 years of supermarket deliveries.

Just very unlucky I'd say, I've been having regular home deliveries from Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons since the beginning of the pandemic and I've never had a disaster (that wasn't my own fault!) You could try the Co-op, I believe they will do same day delivery in some areas, or even deliveroo, but I can't speak with experience of either.

As others say, just unlucky. On the few occasions my delivery is late I've had them ring and say why, van broken down for instance from Iceland

Very unlucky. Do you have a friend or relative that could do a few bits today and then you get your main shop delivered tomorrow?

So, part 2 of the story is that we got a few bits yesterday, and rearranged the delivery for today. And they have now cancelled that as well!

They've offered to reschedule again, but thankfully I've got a negative test this morning (hurrah on so many levels!) so off to do the self-service option instead. Just so disappointed with the whole experience.

I would just check all the other grocery stores delivery slots - even if they are 10 or 20 miles away.  My Tesco is showing slots for 8 pm for hour and 9pm today @£4.50 and plenty tomorrow  from 3pm @ £2.50, get one booked then cancel Sainsbury, if Tesco have them you can bet Asda and Morrison will.

But you are unlucky I think - never had a cancellation, but back when first lockdown I did click and collect from Sainsbury - the store had a fire and it delayed pick ups till after 5 pm and it was mayhem everyone turning up. But thankfully it did not cause to much damage to worker or store.

Agree with this, try others, Iceland is good with slots, just abandon Sainsbury and use someone else in future

@Wyndham I'm interested to know whether you specified you have COVID and asked for a doorstep delivery?
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Yes, we did. There was a tick box. Why do you ask?
