Hello
I've been looking at postal and phone savings accounts. Can't really find any
I noted that NS&I have upped their rates to about 1% - I tried to ring them and on the phone for almost 30 mins they are busy. Do they do postal updates/accounts etc?
Thanks

This comparison site makes it clear how each account can be accessed.
Compare The Best UK Savings Accounts | moneyfacts.co.uk
As a default it lists providers it gets a kickback from at the top of the list.
If you untick the box stating 'show quick links first' you get a more accurate league table.1 -
Skipton Building Society have a Double Access Saver Issue 1 at 1.56%. You can open on the phone and manage by phone or post. It is min £10K though.
For up to £10k, Yorkshire Building Society have a Family Savings account at 1.5% that can be opened on the phone and managed by post.1 -
there's a 1-yr fix with Union Bank of India (UK) Ltd @ 3.20% (shown on Moneyfacts) that is opened/managed via branch/post (£1k to open), but I don't know if you're only interested in easy access accounts.

NS&I's Direct Saver account pays 1.2% and can be managed online and by phone (but not post). They've pretty-much abandoned their old-school postal-only 'Investment Account' and left it with a 0.01% interest rate. The NS&I are notoriously difficult to deal with though, so I wouldn't be wanting to wait 30 mins+ on the phone on a regular basis. Even their online banking access leaves a lot to be desired.diystarter7 said:I noted that NS&I have upped their rates to about 1% - I tried to ring them and on the phone for almost 30 mins they are busy. If online banking really isn't an option then, depending on how frequently the account in question needs managing, I think I would probably prefer my 10 minute walk to town to visit a local branch than a 30 minute wait on the phone or relying on our deteriorating postal system every time I wanted to make a deposit or withdrawal.

Many thanks to all. I will look into the Skipton, sounds about right
Re the "30 mins wait" at NS&I - very true I waited close to that but they were helpful.
The suggestions, open by post and deal via phone sound very good. Skipton does post as well
The NS&I will be used as a last resort.
Again, many thanks to every post here all very helpful.
I have all the info I need to decide over the next couple of weeks.0
