As a computer programmer I hate having to capture data from screen when I can get it via the OVO API

As far as I remember recommended night usage should be at least 40%, otherwise a single rate is cheaper.

Why was your usage for electrical so high in 2017/18?

I know it's a long while ago but that's alot of electricity and not much gas.

I know it's a long while ago but that's alot of electricity and not much gas.

It's so long ago I can't say why, maybe OVO have go the readings transposed in their database ???

I am intigried by your usage. We have used 1825 KWh of electricity and 18360 KWh of gas in the past 12 months. Either your electric is very high or my gas is very high
 We only use a gas fire in the Winter months and rarely have the central heating on although we are home all the time (retired)

Their electric Is high and your gas is quite high... That being said we don't know how many people live in yours and their homes, if they work from, lots of different factors to consider.

We are retired as well and the heating, a combi boiler and radiators, in the winter is on from 07:45 till 23:30 and we used 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,800 kWh of electricity in the past year.

I wonder therefore why my gas usage is so high at 18360 kWh, when all that is used is a gas fire most of the day and evening. Can usage and kWh be checked by a gas engineer to check if the meter is working ok?

Maybe your house just doesn't hold the heat well so temperature drops after and then the boiler kicks back in to heat it up to your desired temperature again.

It could be you have your temperature set higher also.

It could be you have and older inefficient boiler, or a bigger boiler that just burns more gas ... I.e. person a has a 18kwh boiler and person b has a 40kwh boiler.

I used to use 18,000kwh a year (same house as current) I then got it down to 12,000 by having it on less hours and not having it on when I was out etc. This year (August 21- August 22) I went on a real purge and cut right back and I've used 4,500 kWh's. 
Unfortunately I fall into the first category of my house doesn't hold the heat well, and I could have the boiler on all day with the thermostat set to 18C, but as it's poor at holding on to heat it never gets above 16.4C so the boiler I have (24kwh) is just burning that much gas every hour till I manually turn it off.

@John_Philip_Howarth how is your hot water heated? Do you have a combi boiler or is there a hot water tank?
