Buy or borrow a plug-in box or stick that you can add to your TV and use to access Now?

They mailed me too. Did you scroll down to page two where on my email they gave me a code to get a free Amazon firestick? Arrived today. I do have a sports subscription.

You don't need to get rid of the TV.
Obtain a Firestick or a Roku.  Now works on either of these.

Yup, but only six years old. Very annoying.

I dont particularly want or expect to pay extra for their service.
Hopefully, Prime or Netflix will keep the fam happy after 5 September.

Who said anything about paying extra for a service?
The Firestick is a one off purchase.  You wanted to keep Now after September 5, the Firestick will let you do that.
It will also come in useful when Netflix and Prime drop off the supported list in due course.

A Firestick or an AppleTV will get you Now.
Curiously, I have a Sky box and I can get AppleTV on it but not Now, so I have to switch on my AppleTV box to watch Now!

Perhaps not paying extra to use their service, but for having to use their service  - that is why I bought a smart TV in the first place.
