Trying to work out how much the DD needs to be when fix ends 20 October.
Hi. Am with eon next and find their monthly statements confusing but have tried my best. From 3/9/2020 to 3/9/2021 it states Electric estimated usage = 3913KWH on the statement - for gas it states estimated usage 10,687 KWH. I then looked at the latest monthly statement dated 24/6/2022 and it states Electric estimated 3104 KWH and Gas estimated 9412KWH. Recently someone who was a high user has found their own place due to a job change so electric should go down a bit more. I have raised my DD by £100 a month and have a credit of approx £450 (I paid in the £150) and will get the £4000 to account. My finances are very tight with no takeaways/eating out/socialising/smoking etc. We look for free stuff to do (single disabled looking after a child) and wiggle room is very slim. Thank you all for your help.

Sorry meant £400 from government0

imo best to wait until the end of August when the actual October SVT figures will be announced.
Afaik the energy suppliers won't take the £400 into account when setting DDs.2 -
I'm struggling to see what your current DD is. Is it £150 per month, and you've increased it by £100 to £250?

Sorry DD was £98 month but I have put it up to £200

we dont know what the rates will be from october. at current standard variable rates that would cost you about
gas - (7.37p*10687=£787.63)+(27.22*365=£99.35) = £886.98 per year/£73 month
electric - (28.34p*3913=£1,108.94)+(45.34*365=£165.491) = £1,274.43 per year/£106.20 month
i think the estimates are something like another 50% on top of current rates, so if your usage is right then that would mean a total monthly payment of around £268.80. we'll no better at the end of the month. not including your existing credit and that also doesn't include the £400.

The £250 should be fine.

I have used the lower of your figures.
No adjustment for the high energy user who moved out.
There is no adjustment for the further increases in January and April.
The £400 have not been taken into account.
So one factor that will increase, and three that will decrease the cost, so you should be fine with the £250 and you will get the £400 back.1 -
Thank you Ariarnia. I am trying to increase my DD each month so I can ease us into it so it will not be such a shock. I am also stocking up on quick/ low cooking energy food for the winter so it will have smaller impact on child. I am worrying but am trying to get prepared.1

Electricity is high though. I'm guessing you use a washing machine & tumble dryer quite a bit more than most along with a lot more water. If you are on a water meter, contact your supplier and see what help they can offer - They will often have reduced rates for certain vulnerable groups and low income households. It would also be worth approaching Eon.next and see if they can offer any help - It might be in the form of extra insulation or low energy (LED) bulbs. Those two won't save a huge amount on your energy cost (maybe £20-30 per year), but it is a start.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
