Not paid gas for a year - ish

Finally facing up to trying to decide on an energy tariff, and logged on to figure out options with e.on next.

Could only see electricity bill even though i was certain i went with them for both when we moved last year, and that the direct debit was set to reflect both.

Called and they said that the gas appeared to be stuck in 'pre registration', so essentially nothing has be paid charged for yet.

I am 400odd in credit, which would make sense if I've only been paying electricity, and hopefully that will mostly cover the gas but I'm very anxious that I'm about to be hit with a bill for a year's worth that the credit wont cover. Annoyingly, I've even been submitting readings, and have spoken to them recently about tariffs! I was on a fixed deal for a year so hopefully it wont be too scary but... urgh!!

And also worried that the tarriffs I've been quote since only now cover the electricity... (just occured to me... going to message them now).

GREAT.

Do you know how much gas you have used ?

And the prices per kWh since you moved last year?

OP says they have been supplying readings, so presumably yes.
OP should face a back bill of no more than a year, as back billing rules should apply here?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Any write off would take into account any DD payments for gas made during the period of write off. As you know, BackBilling is aimed at preventing bill shock.

Do you have a record of the meter readings you've submitted? You need to look through either your own records, or on the energy providers website and record these readings somewhere safe - such as a spreadsheet.
It sounds like you've been doing everything right, so you're at least going to billed accurately.  Though I know this be of much comfort to you, when you finally get the bill.  I'd raise a complaint with the company, as events such as these can cause anxiety - which sounds what has already happened.

Very unlikely to result in any bill reduction as by the time they deduct the credit on the account they are likely to be well within the last 12 months of use...

That's no guarantee that they know the full cost and have been tracking the price of energy as they said may cover it when the likelyhood is if they moved in last year they had a full winter usage of gas central heating.

    Maybe let the OP respond?
  • Hi thanks for the responses.

I have been supplying meter readings (last one a month ago, at the end of my fixed rate).

I am hoping that, assuming my gas usage hasnt been way over estimated when I took the fixed term, then the bill won't be out of line with the credit.

Having said that, I dont know if our electricity was out of line with estimated usage- theres a chance that the monthly dd has been just covering excess energy usage?

I guess i need to dig out the original set up comms and figure out if either has been in excess... Eon have said they'll contact me in a week! Cheers eon, that doesnt feel like a lifetime AT ALL....!

If you know your start reading and take readings today we have some great people on the forum that may be able to calculate it all for you.

As long as you also know you kWh price in pence for each energy and standing charges👍
  • So, they seem to have worked quickly. They have taken a payment from my credit which, according to the whatsapp chat I'm having with them, is for the full year (i guess july is outstanding though). so that's reassuring!

However, I have a new dilemma. The fixed they are offering is (and ive just signed up to, prior to seeing Martin's email) works out at 3636pa. Martin said the prediction *from October* is average user would be on 3359pa. should i shop around?!

My annual use for Elec is: 3254 units, and gas is 591... is that average??!

    This is SO overwhelming!

You are slightly over average for electric, and much under average for gas.

I assume the 591 is units and not KWh?

What is their estimate based on? Your usage or an estimate? What are the unit rates offered?
