We currently pay £27.30, but that includes line rental, inclusive landline calls (23.27) and 'voicemail with call protect' (4.03)

It may be cheaper to take a line rental and broadband package, even if you don't use the broadband.
Landline only will effectively become obsolete in December 2025 as the phone side will be moved over from PSTN to IP network. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I doubt our copper wire will become redundant in 2025. We are too remote for FTTC even though there are five houses within 400m. FTTP was going to cost £13k IIRC!macman said:It may be cheaper to take a line rental and broadband package, even if you don't use the broadband.

It won't. 95% of broadband services still come by copper wire from the cabinet. It's just PSTN that will go.J_B said:

Indeed, but our cabinet is over two miles away - we can only get 2Mbps on copper, but 30 with our WISP!
