    I seem to remember from before fitted plugs became the code that tinning of the wires, which used to be common, was banned.

    If you use the cable restraints correctly you won't see it. When it comes to connections that have no restraint it can and does happen. You won't find a soldered connection on a modern car wiring harness.

    Cord end ferrules are a fast preferred method to soldering for flexible cables and cords.
