EDF - Ridiculous billing

Hello all,

just wanted to share my thoughts on EDF.

I purchased a flat in early June - but not yet moved in. I took over the previous tenants utilities company EDF and provided the meter readings a couple of days after collecting the keys. I am currently on their "deemed" billing system.

Bare in mind I have not lived at the property I have now been sent a bill of over £1,500!

Since the start, EDF have been absolutely atrocious regarding the bills. Unfortunately I cannot move to another company as my energy usage is practically non-existent.

Not sure what else I can do? BUT i am definitely not paying that bill..

    What are the £1500 for? Are they KWh used?

    Are the start reads the ones you have supplied?

    Maybe the former owner has underreported their usage and you are getting a catchup bill that should go to them.

    the £1590 is for gas from 28 May till 22 June.

    1945 = 21658 kWh x 7.342p:  £1,590.13

    I provided bill readings on 28 May but on their invoice it notes its an estimate.

    I spoke to their customer services a week after 28 May and they did eventually amend the Bill - but its reverted back to the craziness
  • By the sound of it the previous occupants didn’t tell the supplier that they were moving out and the supplier’s system is trying to bill you for their usage.

    If the madness continues, then raise a written complaint. Provide the supplier with evidence backing up the day that you became responsible for the property, along with the readings that you provided previously.

    Finally, estimates can appear on bills when actual meter readings are not provided on the date that the statement is issued. That said, during my brief sojourn with EDF earlier this year, I found their billing system to be of a bygone era . The good news is that EDF has just entered into an arrangement with Octopus Energy to use the technology platform designed and maintained by Kraken Technologies (a part of the Octopus Energy Group).

    I found the team at  ComplaintResolution@edfenergy.com   quite responsive
    Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
