Virgin Money M Plus application

Applied for a Virgin M Plus account with no success. First the app took photo of driving licence but then said 'Ooops something went wrong'. Went on line to try but I couldn't open an account because it said I already had an account and needed to log in. Did have a Clydesdale ISA which closed in 2014 (but don't think I was online with it) so tried to sign in, just in case. Failed and got a message that a code had been sent to my phone ending 7777. I have never had a phone number like that and the Clydesdale account was at a different address and different postcode. Could go no further.
Rang customer services and, after 30 minutes, the agent was no help and had no idea what was happening and didn't know why I was being told I was a customer and to sign in with non-existent ID. He put me through to someone else (or tried to) but after another 30 minutes I gave up.
Went to First Direct and managed straight away to open an account.
Anyone had experience of Virgin Money, or had similar experience? Just concerned about security.

yes, because of the hotchpotch of their countless systems, if you ever had a Clydesdale or Yorkshire current account or credit card, it treats you as an existing customer and you need to use the login credentials you had for that account. If you are able to retrieve these login credentials, you should be ok. If not, you are stumped, I'm afraid.1

Set up accounts for myself and my mother earlier this year, without any problems. I did have a previous Clydesdale Bank account, but it was a very long time ago.

Thanks but I have never had a Virgin, Clydesdale, Yorkshire Bank or Northern Rock current account or credit card. They even managed to seemingly link a previous address with my current one but when I rang customer services there was no link with a previous address.Daliah said:yes, because of the hotchpotch of their countless systems, if you ever had a Clydesdale or Yorkshire current account or credit card, it treats you as an existing customer and you need to use the login credentials you had for that account. Perhaps there is a person with the same name or DOB as yours?0

It doesn't matter too much now as I opened a First Direct current account and received everything in the post today, less than 48 hours later.Daliah said:Perhaps there is a person with the same name or DOB as yours?0 -
I've just sold my house and moved into rented for a while. I have opened about a dozen accounts to spread out the equity, Of all the banks etc that I approached, Virgin and their Virgin M product, were by far the most torturous and bewildering organisation to try and deal with. As with Malchester I gave up on them and told them exactly where they could deposit their Virgin M. In retaliation they immediately raised the savings rate to 1.71% purely to spite me. Grrrrrrr0

How is a First Direct current account an alternative to a Virgin M Plus current account?Malchester said:

They are both current accounts. Only wanted a current account as back up to my main current account without switching. Used to have a Tesco current account for that purpose until they withdrew them. FD pay no interest on current account but have regular saver at 3.5% currently compared to Virgin 2.02% on current account and 1.71% ov savings account. Experience of the two means I want to go with one I can trust.Daliah said:

Had a savings account with them for a few years - rate has dropped to next to nothing.
Was going to close it and move to a different bank with a better rate, but then saw an ad of theirs for the latest eSaver account with a much better rate and.. stupidly.. decided to open one of them instead and just move the money over.. stupidly.. thinking that would be simple.
I'd forgotten what a joy VM are to deal with.
Even though I still hold an active account with them, I now have to go through all the 'proof of ID' nonsense all over again for this new account.
Definitely my last account with them now.0 -
Over the years, I had countless Regular Savers with VM, and I still have dozens of current accounts with VM as they are still giving me the best instant access rate available in the market. The minute they aren't top any longer, I will move my money - in fact, I now have £0 in the M Plus Savers, and I just closed half a dozen of their Regular Savers early as I can get more interest for that money elsewhere. As and if they offer top rates again, I'll be back in a jiffy.
If you are looking for a savings account for more than £1,000, look elsewhere. VM are no longer top.0
