How Do You Set Up A Fix to Start in October
I'm with Octopus (was transferred from Avro a while back) saw some people set up their fix to start in October - I'm thinking of fixing this evening but afraid to press the switch link in case it does it automatically as I don't want it to start straight away. Do we have to contact the provider by email or phone to arrange this? I'm just worried in case the prices change again tomorrow? Thank you...

If you want a fix it starts now. You have to suck up the higher rates for a couple of months to get the benefit from October. It's summer, you're not using so much so it won't cost a lot more. You will of course start paying the higher DD straight away but that isn't the bill, that's just a pot of money you keep with your energy supplier and they take the bill costs from the pot.
You can wait until October to fix but the rates on offer then are likely to be even higher than what is on offer now.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Thank you Alnat1, I'm sure I've read on here about people reserving fixes and Octopus allowing them staying on the current standard until it kicks in October. Probably wishful thinking on my part but if I find them and how to I'll post as could be useful.0

You cant, the companies arent stupid, they offer you a fix, but you have to overpay before October. Some of the fixes I seen you also overpaying from Oct to Dec as well.

Handy tip - send email, ask nicely, attach screenshot of the offer, hear back and..(very fast)result!! Worked for me - I’m kind of surprised to say the least0

We managed to defer an offer for a month just by asking back in March this year. (Eon Next)
You are right there is no harm asking and seeing how far a company will delay an offer for you.
Always keep the correspondence in this case though just in case they forget!!

On eon next they allow you to defer for about six weeks I signed my dad up this way. Octopus send your new deals about six weeks before the end of
your counteract and it starts when your fic
ends I fixed starting next week got sent it six weeks ago1 -
I am a bit confused.
At 22.17 on the 2nd of August, outside the Octopus business hours, you are asking how you can get Octopus to agree to a start of the fixed tariff only in October.
At 1.41 on the 3rd of August, still outside of business hours, you report success that Octopus has agreed to let you start in October.
So is Octopus now answering emails outside their business hours? Also very fast as Octopus states regarding their answer time to emailsHow are we doing?
We're taking 1 day, 5 hours, 34 minutes on average to reply to your emails at the moment. That's longer than we'd like, so if your query isn't super urgent, it may be better to try later. In case you're wondering, we measure response times during business hours

Some of the fixes I seen you also overpaying from Oct to Dec as well. This isn't completely accurate for Octopus...When you come towards the end of a fixed term with Octopus they will send out a link to let you pick your next tariff, and that will be locked in to start when your current one ends. That email is usually sent out 45 days before the end of the term so right now someone getting that email today would be locking in a current tariff which would not begin until the middle of September. You can ask for the same sort of delay when locking in a tariff change by phone as well, the CS staff have some latitude to do this, 45 days should be possible, much more than that would be less likely. Not a guarantee that they will do it, but certainly worth asking...
