I am not objecting to paying, i am suggesting a way to encourage to people to generate their own and cut back on grid usage.
IF they have the capital available to install solar and a battery and all the controls............
and replace them when they become less efficient...

Kinda like EVs, people keep going on about how cheap they are to run, they forget it cost them £30k to buy the actual vehicle and will need a further £10 - £15k when the batteries need replacing. That pays for a lot of fuel.

Electric cars should be simpler to build (& use more automation), use fewer parts (so smaller supply chain& employment within), need less servicing & last longer.
The car dealers are going to find it harder to get people to change every 3 years & there will be fewer people employed within the car industry (& probably just in general) to pay for them. It's going to be an interesting decade for the motor industry.

Jim Farley Ford CEO  wants to sell Ford EVs online, getting rid of dealer inventory and turning existing dealerships into high-quality service centres.

And if the standing charge was on the unit price there would not be more incentive?
If you're down to £20 per month there isn't much scope to reduce unless you scrap your meter completely.

They could sit in a sleeping bag all winter with a wind up torch. Or maybe they already do.

I'm wondering what the bill will be in December, when solar isn't generating any appreciable power and electricity is 45p/kWh.

I use 900kw a year from the grid.
Right now about 1.8kwh a day but in Dec/Jan more like 4 kwh a day.

There is concern though that when heatpumps become mandatory solar will suffer.
Is this really coming down the line? All I’ve seen and heard about heat pumps is that they’re pretty useless.  That’s before you need to find somewhere to a) attach the thing to your property and b) find somewhere to put the storage tank.
