We have just been on the Utility warehouse site and entered out estimated annual usage. They have quoted £160/month for both gas and electricity. We are currently paying £240/month and soon to increase much higher. Whats the catch?
There is no chance that they will offer you anything below the current SVT.0 -
@whomsey Do your own annual estimate - if your read your meters monthly and keep your own records its easy - if not find a bill from about 12 months ago and read your meters today and do your own sums.
Is your existing account massively in credit ?
Is that £160 is gas and electric ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I thought that UW prices were dependent on you getting all sorts of products through them. So maybe gas and electric would be a good price but only if you also switch broadband, mobile, landline, etc etc etc.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. But there is no chance that they will give you fixed tariff that is over 30% cheaper than the current SVT, that would be before October 2021 level.0 -

Whats the catch? No, you are currently putting £240/month into a pot to cover your energy costs, UW are suggesting you only put £160 into the pot, this has nothing to do with what your energy is actually going to cost you...Compare the real cost of what you expect to use over a year using the kWh and standing charge figures and see how much of a difference there really is...

Using above figure I get to £197, which is about the £50 cheaper than SVT at other suppliers.
They don't have a fixed tariff (at least for me) any longer, so this will increase in October.
So the catch seems to be
- you did not give them your real usage figures
- their price will also go up
Not sure why you are currently paying £240, instead of slightly over £200. Are you paying off a debt?0 -
