Thanks again to everyone who replied. Especial thanks to @rumrat, I think our posts crossed. I'll try Kroo but if that doesn't work it will have to be good old paper & pen
  • not sure if this would fit your situation, but if you pay through monzo you can split the bill with anyone else who has monzo aswell, it's such a great feature

Sorry I can't help but I read this & this is one of the reasons I don't particularly like eating out in groups. I don't mind situations like spouse, parents, siblings because we all split the bill accurately.
It's when you start going out in bigger groups. Friends & friends of friends etc.

You always get that one person who has 10 glasses of expensive wine, the most expensive steak on the menu, the dearest desert.
Where you only had a salad, a water & an ice cream.

Your meal came to £15 but now you're paying £40 because of everyone else, but if you say anything then you get looked at like an alien. How dare you be so stingy.

I know it's a topic that divides people. On a par with should you tip. I don't envy you OP. Good luck.
  • Splitwise, you can add expenses in groups or individually and it has the option to turn on simplified expenses or not to work out the totals owed by each person/group. No need for any bank details, anyone can sign up and enter their own or others expenses and split either equally or by a specific amount.

I've used it for years for holidays, while travelling, when living with flatmates, works really well!
  • To update we did use Splitwise and found it did the trick. Better than paper and pencil and seen to be fair by all concerned.

    Thanks, @Rachel990 for the tip
