Bill Splitting Apps

I am going on a self-catering holiday with a group of people and I am starting to get worried about how we will split the bill. We won't be together all the time but I expect we will eat some meals together and have some joint days out.  I have suggested using Hyper Jar but one person is not happy linking his bank details. A complication is that at least one person is bringing cash.

Can anyone recommend a bill splitting app to use in such a situation? Ideally, we would all have access to the app to add details of the money we have contributed to joint events/meals. We could then see a running total by individual or family so a settlement/adjustment can be made during or after the holiday.

Thank you

Excel perhaps ? And share the sheet with your preferred online drive.

I wouldn't share bank details either if that information wasn't being held by me.  With a larger group, sharing cost is always likely to be problematic.  Who decides on the level of tip, just as one example.  Breaking down the spending and then inputtingt and app or spreadsheet is not going to be simple either.  Unless everybody expects to be spending roughly the same amount I would leave each couple to pay their part of any bills.

Do you need such a thing?

    Accommodation is an easy split

For meals out just get the restaurant to split the bill, either equally or by who bought what. Their systems will easily handle it - some can even do it from the card reader handset rather than the main till

For joint events people can just buy their own ticket

You could use PayPal or Google Pay/Wallet. It would mean a little setting up (not difficult).

Thank you for your replies and suggestions for solutions which don't require a bill splitting app.  It isn't eating out I'm concerned about, splitting then is easy, but we won't be eating 3 meals a day 7 days a week out of the accommodation. For personal reasons, I would prefer to have a transparent method of showing both costs and contributions. If anyone can suggest such an app I would be very grateful.  Perhaps no such app exists.

If you can manage with only some users having the app, Kroo may work.
You can manually add non app users, and manually add transactions.

Settling up would need to be manual for non app/account users.

Do you have a link for how to do this in Google Pay (now Wallet)?

As I said excel use a spreadsheet. Of course do all of you have the same phone technology with the equivalent app available? Mind you being in my seventies I could have suggested a piece of paper and a pen…pencils are too easy to rub out. Oh and you may find a calculator on your phone too.

    Pencil and paper.

Some things are still best done the old ways.

It's not clear what you are trying to solve.

What is getting pooled that needs this level of detail?

Is it something like A spent £20 shopping.
B had 2 eggs for breakfast C only had one.

Is there  likely to be a problem with people not  being fare, more out than in.
