EasyJet 20 hour delay

Options
Hi all

Had a nightmare return flight from Izmir to Liverpool this week which included a 20 hour delay due to a tyre blow out while the plane landed in Izmir on its way to take us back to Liverpool.

We we're eventually put up in a hotel at 3:30am. No food vouchers were offered even though the flight was scheduled to take off at 8:05pm the previous evening.

A replacement plane was flown out from Luton the following day which eventually took off 3 hours after the scheduled departure time and under a different flight number.

My questions are;

Is a tyre blow out considered an exceptional circumstance?

Izmir to Liverpool is circa 3,800km. Am I entitled to the full £520 compensation?

Can I claim for the food and drink expenses incurred during the 20 hour delay?

The delay caused my parking ticket to expire. Can I claim the additional parking fee paid?

Thanks in advance for any responses

not sure - possibly...maybe others can confirm

GreatCircleMapper.net shows Izmir to Liverpool as 2835km

yes - submit your receipts to reclaim expenses - this duty of care applies whether delay is exceptional or not

maybe from your travel insurance however may not be worth it depending on excess

Yes, you should be able to claim but not £520. The distance flying, as opposed to driving, is only 2831 km. You can claim reasonable food and drinks, no alcohol during the wait but consequential losses such as the parking fees won't be covered, a decent airport wouldn't have charged extra.

    Thanks for your replies

I've now submitted a claim via easyjet's online claim form

I did explain my situation to the Park Smart rep at Liverpool airport but I was told the only way to exit the car park would be to pay the additional overstay fee. I'll check my insurance policy to see if this is covered

    Thanks again
