Next Wardrobe Issues

Need some advice really.
So in mid April I purchased a wardrobe from next. It looked lovely in photos and came with assembly on site. I was quoted a week for it to be delivered however turned up on the 21st July! the fitters were nice enough about half way through the build he asks do I want this door device putting on which slows the door shut. Now I thought to my self I thought this comes with the wardrobe. However at the time I just decided to go with it . said it be £30 to install, when he finished he asked me to pay to his personal bank account??? I thought this is a little odd however since he done the job and he was fairly big I didn't want to kick off so paid him and he left.
I contacted Next who thought this was strange and not heard off so wanted proof of payment , the fitter denying that I paid him extra for the build. Last night things turned a little worse. The wardrobes have very heavy sliding doors. I went to open one of the doors and one of the two runners fell off, upon inspection they had used two small screws to hold in this runner instead of 6 and clearly too small for the hole. I have checked the other runner which is also just about hanging on. I have now checked the rest of the wardrobe and its been damaged in assorts of places. There screws where they been screwed in so tightly its cracked the wood. Having paid nearly £700 for this wardrobe I am shocked how this has been put together.
Next are investigating it but surely this should not of happened in the first place. I feel like they have used cowboy builders and left with dangerous built wardrobe. I am thinking of taking legal action but do not know my rights in this.
any advice would be grateful.
ps Next are investigating this issue as mentioned they have said this is the first time this has happened to them???

Firstly I’d let them carry out the investigation, have they given you a time scale?Make sure you take photos of damage and missing screws etc.0

no time scales other than they raised it as an urgent repair. My concern is the door might fall off in the night and if it does it could seriously injury my self or my wife.0

Next furniture teams have been really good for me. A button fell off my sofa and they arranged to repair or replace pretty quickly. They also always call me back when I got disconnected from their live chat a few times.
I'd give them time to rectify. Take lots of pictures, say you were unhappy. Say that you felt vulnerable and pressured into making the direct payment to the fitter and you want them to refund that money too, prove it with a statement of the bank transfer.
No point jumping the gun yet, they haven't even had time to investigate so let it run its course.1
