Sports direct bought the names of nearly everything they sell now.
Once thriving companies like Slazinger, Everlast, Karrimore, Firetrap to name but a few are now no more and SD stepped in and bought the names so they can make the stuff as cheap as chips and sell it as a brand. that people once wore with pride.1 -
Names continuing in use after a company has been bought out is nothing new, and certainly not limited to Sports Direct. Try tracing the company who actually makes anything from white goods, to cars, to garden machinery and you'll find the same thing happening.
