Vauban and I are from way back when on this forum.

As far as I recall, staff illness wasn't usually considered an EC anyway.

Obviously BA decided to get silly about (like Jet2 and Huzar) and once in a higher court it becomes precedent.

Yes, it's clear from numerous threads on here that many are in need of assistance with getting to grips with the basics, and it is quite a complex area when all is said and done, so anything offering guidance is worth considering.

I suspect that the situation 10+ years ago was rather different though, and so in many cases it would have been necessary to establish principles that are now taken for granted - the reference to the Sturgeon case in the MSE template letter is an example of something that may have added value back then but is IMHO entirely redundant in the post-Covid world where airlines are familiar with their obligations and have dealt with tens or hundreds of thousands of now-commoditised claims via standardised templates of their own.

That doesn't prevent them from arguing the toss of course and trying to pull the wool over claimants' eyes, so in general the more sources of information the better - I don't know when https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-delays/ was first published but that seems a reasonable primer too....
