Is this a Scam (email from 'Santander')

I got an email saying 'Dear ... we need you to confirm your details...'

Check the details are correct.
Make changes if needed.
Click ‘submit’ – even if you haven’t made changes.

It's No 3 that's concerning. Even more concerning is that when I did log into my online account, there was a message saying something similar at the first page, soon after I log on, and then usually where I click - my accounts, it says confirm details.

Has anyone else had this?

Obviously a phishing email. Santander will not send an email with links to anything other then information pages, they say so on their genuine emails:

The email is genuine if it mentions your name and contains the last 3 digits of your post code. It just advises you that "The next time you log on to Mobile or Online Banking you'll be asked to check and confirm your details. It should only take a minute."

Just don't click on any of the links in the email, as a matter of principle.

I assumed the OP’s email was instructing him to click on a link and do those steps.  If the email simply ask to log in into your online banking (without following a link from said email) then it would be different. But as per the screenshots attached to my response, Santander does tell you what to look for.

We obviously can’t know what email the OP got, but the one I had only had links to general websites, not any login links/buttons/requests. It mentions my name and post code info, and as it happens, I had already been asked in the app to confirm my personal info before I saw the email. My email also contained all that general info about genuine emails, as per the screenshots. So I am satisfied that the email I got today was genuine, and think it’s highly likely the OP’s was too.

TBH, the email was a bit of overkill, as it was obvious what they wanted when logging into the app. But they are probably compelled to make it doubly obvious under some new, more onerous, Consumer Duty regulations banks are now lumbered with by the FCA.

As I said, the OP shouldn’t click on any links in emails as a matter of principle

Forward  the suspicious mail to Santander. Why take chances?

There’s no opportunity to take chances with that email. At least not with the version I got, which I reckon is the same the OP had (apart from name and post code, clearly)

Thank you for posting this message.
My mum also got this email. We logged into her account and checked all the personal details. There were no details to change. There was no 'Submit' button to click, which was worrying.
I plan on visiting a Santander branch to ask them about the email and the lack of a Submit button. But there is some comfort in knowing that others got the same email.

I too had this about three weeks ago.  The app asked me to confirm the details, but I couldn't get out of that screen - no submit or back button.  I then got an email, as above, saying that I'd failed to supply the requested details and to do them next time I logged on.  A few days later the app was updated.  So I wonder if it was just poorly implemented and they addressed it.  I've not heard any more about it - no further requests or reminders.

I'll call Santander but I have my doubts they'll be able to help. Last week I got a txt about insufficient funds and to put money in by 2pm otherwise the 'payment' wouldn't go ahead. I couldn't think what it was about so called them. No info at their end whatsoever. Then realised a £660 hmrc payment on account cheque - could it be that, I asked? Spoke to 3 people, one might have been from the so called back office but still couldn't find out if the cheque had bounced. HMRC said they had received the money 2 days prior. It was the cheque and the money was taken from my current account 3 hours later. No communication between their departments.

I agree with not clicking on ANY links. Scammers can still have your name and address details, and use these to make phishing emails look genuine.
