Changing tax code back after claiming wfh relief

I was required to work from home in the tax year 21/22, so I claimed the working-from-home tax relief. In Aug '21 my tax code was 1275L and in Sept '21 it changed to 1288L, which I presume was HMRC applying the tax relief. My payslips have all shown 1288L since then. I am not eligible for the tax relief in the 22/23 tax year.

My question is: do I have to *notify* HMRC that I am not eligible in the 22/23 tax year, or will they automatically apply the tax relief to run for one year only?

  • How was your tax code changed to 1288L - did you phone up, use the micro service or send them a form?

What does your Personal Tax Account show your 2022/23 tax code is?

I sent them a paper form (I can't use any of their online services due to the nature of my job). I guess I'll have to phone them and ask. I've read today in Martin's Weekly Email that people should check the code hasn't been rolled over by mistake....so sounds like it's not as automatic as I'd hoped. Beginning to wish I hadn't bothered claiming now!
