Cancelled Flight

I currently work in China, i had planned a trip to Europe in August returning to China on September the 2nd with Austrian Airlines. During my trip to Europe I booked flights and accomodation for a week in Scotland ( travelling from Riga). But my return trip was cancelled due to fusing of flights. I was told about a return flight on the 23rd of September, but this was filling fast my seat was not secured.
My question is can I make a claim for the financial loss incurred by cancelling my holiday to Scotland, flights by AirBaltic and private accomodation, as I had to postpone my flight to Europe, due to the cancellation of yhe return flightto China.

The airline wouldn't be liable but if your travel insurer provides sufficient cover for those circumstances then you should be able to claim from them....1

If I have understood correctly the cancelled flight was from Europe to China and therefore covered by EU261 regulations. The airline Austrian Airlines - will be responsible for refunding you for that flight or providing you with an alternative flight to China .
How much notice did you get of the cancelled flight ? If it was less than 14 days you can claim from the airline a set amount of compensation ( unless it was as a result of something out of their control ) The compensation you are entitled to claim for a flight of this distance is €600.
The airline is not responsible for any other consequential losses .0 -
OP states that the cancelled flight was scheduled for 2 September, so significantly more than 14 days notice must have been given!onashoestring said:How much notice did you get of the cancelled flight ? In my defence the dates in the post are confusing- OP also mention a re-scheduled date of 23rd Sep which caused them to miss their planned trip to Scotland ( which presumably should have happened before the original return date of 2nd Sep ) ??Not clear why a flight 3 weeks later should cause them to miss the Scotland trip - ?0 -
Yes, agreed that it's not as clear as it could be, but I think OP is effectively saying that if the return flight is moved three weeks back then he feels the need to call the whole trip off. Perhaps understandable, but I'd have thought that it would be more productive to apply pressure on Austrian Airlines to fulfil their obligation to reroute him on a more suitable flight back to China, with another airline if necessary, rather than being expected to wait three weeks, which IMHO is a completely unreasonable proposal....onashoestring said:
