Or at least you know what each other wants... personally happy doing my own thing on a city break and other than the Mrs going with friends etc is ok but can mean spending time in shops or other things that aren't my thing. If the friend wanted to stay in the apartment I'd be happy with that.Sea_Shell said:
It helps if you are both on the same page as to what sort of holiday you want... before you agree to go! 😉elsien said:Friend I've just holidayed with spent a lot of time in the apartment watching reading and watching Netflix while I went out and about. Their reasoning was it's not something they get the chance to do at home so the alone time from family was their holiday.0 -
I went to New York twice in the same year. Once with my sister, once with OH.Sandtree said:

2 very different and enjoyable breaks.0 -
We have been to the same small apartment complex a few times and there is one guy who visits there at least 3 or 4 times a year who always seems to be just laying out in the sun. So much so that the standing joke is that one sunbed is his bed. If he wants to completely collapse during his holiday that's his business. I get bored after a short time on a sunbed and generally go off for a wander. Sometimes my wife comes and other times she won't. Everything is personal choice.

If anyone's got any better suggestions, please post!!!We've been to some places multiple times and so have "seen it all". It's more like being a local. Shopping, a few "chores" etc. but without being tied to that one place like owning a holiday home might be (if you can't afford to still go other places!!)
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
It never bothers me if we can’t get a sunbed but it is hilarious watching people bag them early in the morning! 🤣. One year I woke about 5am and from our balcony saw this very petite woman was heading for the pool area. She reserved 5 beds beside the pool with towels. She then moved tables near them. She then walked the full length of the pool and dragged a massive parasol back to her “area”. The parasol was in a large cylindrical container filled with concrete and how she didn’t put her back out I will never know.
I have only stayed at one hotel where staff removed all the towels on empty loungers before the pool opened. He just threw them all in a pile! If we use a lounger it is for a maximum of about an hour then we get bored.0
